Dear Passenger,

Indian customs welcome you. As you wait for your baggage, please go through these notes which have been prepared by Mumbai Customs to help you sail smoothly through the customs formalities.

CUSTOM CLEARANCE ON ARRIVAL

  1. As a passenger you must fill up the customs declaration form supplied by the airlines on board. You should mention the value of the dutiable items imported and this disembarkation card must be signed by the passenger, before approaching the customs for clearance. You are advised to make true declaration of your baggage.
  2. A gold declaration counter is setup to help passengers importing gold /silver under gold & silver import scheme. Import of ten kilograms of gold and hundred kilograms of silver is permitted to a passenger who has stayed abroad for more than six months. The duty on gold is to be paid at the rate of Rs. 255/- per ten grams and on silver at the rate of Rs. 510/-  Per kilogram, in convertible foreign currency.
  3. Similarly, there is foreign currency declaration counter where passengers bringing foreign currency in excess of US$5,000 in cash or US$10,000/- in TC & Cash in total or their equivalent can make currency declaration in the prescribed currency declaration form and obtain a certificate here
  4. Any merchandise puhrchased by you from the duty free shops at any airport will form a part of your baggage and can be cleared within the duty free and on-duty allowance available to you.
  5. You are welcome to seek clarification  / guidance / assistance form customs PRO desk situated in the Arrival Hall. You should feel free to air your grievances, if any, to the Assistant, / Deputy Commissioner on duty.   6. You are advised not to pay for any of the services available to you at the airport, for example trolleys, toilets, inter terminal transfer coaches, loader or custom assistance. Beware of Unscrupulous elements in the baggage hall trying to take advantage of your ignorance of the rules
  7. In certain cases like valuation disputes, inability to pay the duty instantly or violation of baggage rules by any passengers, the goods will be detained by the customs authorities. Passengers are then provided with a Dentation Receipt (Dr) which they are required to produce at the time of clearance of their goods.
  8. Under no circumstances endorsements for temporary importation of goods would be done on the passports, Similarly, export endorsements too are not allowed on the passports, and the passengers are advised to obtain relevant Export certificates for the same. These certificates will be issued for high value items having visible marks & Sr. nos. and which you may desire to bring back into the country.
  9. You are informed that mis declaration and import of non bafide items in your baggage can lead to confiscation of these goods and may attract fine, penalty, and other penal actions, as per the law.
  10. Import of arms and ammunition in baggage is allowed only to a licence holder subject to the restrictions imposed under foreign Trade Policy by D.G.F.T.
  11. You may choose to walk through the green channel if you have no dutiable or prohibited goods, otherwise you should choose the red channel. In case of doubt, please consult the customs PRO on duty. Misuse of green channel will attract severe penal action. A small percentage of green channel passengers will be checked at random to ensure the facilities are not being misued. Our apologies to such passengers in advance and our thanks  to them for their cooperation
  12. All passengers should note that carrying any Narcotic Drugs or Psycho tropic substances will attract heavy penalties and may be even imprisonmentof upto 10 years. The punishment can extend to even death sentence.

Different rules apply to different types of passengers depending upon their passports, the type of visas granted, duration of stay abroad and the purpose of visit.

  1. Merchandise items brought by them to be cleared against bank guarantee provided by them.
  • The duty free entitlements are less in case of passengers of upto 10/12 years of age.
  • In addition to above, all passengers above 18 years of age are entitled to bring one laptop duty free.
Note : GFA Stands for General free Allowance and the set-off of GFA of more than one passenger cannot by clubbed against one item.
Duty Structure
The good in excess of the duty free allowances and entitlements given above are liable to be charged duty as per the prevailing rates. The effective rates of duty for commonly imported items are as under:

Passengers my please note that these guidelines are in a simplified form only for easy understanding. These guidelines do not dilute the existing provisions of customs Acts, Rules & Regulations. You may contact the P.R.O. Customs for any details.
APPENDIX A:-
Personal effects, excluding jewellery, required for statisfying daily necessities of life and consisting of following :  (List only illustrative) Bedding, Blanket, Bed Sheets, Sleeping Bag, Boiler suit, Blouses, Dresses, Dentures, Frocks, Gloves, Handkerchief, Hair dryer, Hearing aids, Headgear, Wheel chair, jeans, lungis, neckties, nighties, pants, perfumes, toiletries, cosmetics in use, suits, shirts, shoes, socks, shaving kit, spectacles, towels, underwear, umbrella, walking stick etc.

APPENDIX B:-

Free arms and cartridges exceeding 50, Cigarettes exceeding 200 or cigars exceeding 250gm. Alcoholic liquor and wines in excess of 2 litters. Gold in any form other than ornaments silver in any form other than ornaments.

APPENDIX C:-
House hold effects including articles used for running households such as linen, utensils, tableware, kitchenware,  kitchen appliances, dry or steam iron, battery operated lights and other items used in – house which ordinarily not used for merchandise or commercial purpose.

APPENDIX D:-
Professional Equipment such as portable equipment, instruments, apparatus and appliances as are required in the profession by a carpenter, a plumber, a welder, a mason and the like. These do not include items of common use such as cassette recorders, Dictaphones, personal computers, typewriters and other similar articles.

APPENDIX E:-
Tourist Baggage item include items like, personal jewellery. One Camera with film rolls not exceeding twenty, one video camera / cam coder. One pair of binoculars, one portable CTV not exceeding 15 cms, One music system including player, one portable typewriter, one laptop computer one digital diary, one portable wireless receving set, professional equipments (audio/video), sports equipment (audio/video) sports equipments
Cell phone etc. these goods should be in use of the passenger before being brought to India.

UNACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE.

The above rules are also applicable to Unaccompanied Baggage. However, no general free allowance “GFA” is available for “Unaccompanied Baggage” you do not require any landing certificate to clear your Unaccompanied Baggage.

IMMIGRATION
Indian traveling abroad should be in possession of valid passport and visa, except for those countries where visa on arrivals is available

REQUIREMENTS FOR POE CLEARANCE
Indian traveling abroad (except to the below mentioned 22 countries) Should either have ECNR endorsements in their passports or take emigration clearance from the POE or the Regional passport offices depending on the purpose of visit.

Requirements for Identification Documents for Travel to and from Nepal by Air.
Identify documents required for Indian citizens.

  1. Valid national passport.
  2. Photo identity Card issued by Govt.of India / any state Govt. / Union Territory Administration / Election commission of India
  3. Emergency Certificate issued by Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
  4. Identity certificate issued by Embassy of  India in Kathmandu
  5. Persons in the age group of above 65 years and below 15 years would be exempt from the requirement of approved identity documents mentioned above. However they must have some documents with photograph to confirm their age and identity such as Pac card, Driving license, CGHS Card, Ration Card etc.
  6. Children between the age group of 15-18 years may be allowed to travel between India and Nepal on the strength of identity Certificate issued by the principal of the school in the Prescribed Proforma.
  7. In the case of family (husband, wife, minor children and parents) traveling together the approved identification documents mentioned above would not be insisted from all the family members, if one of the adult members of the family has in Possession above. However the other family members must have some proof of their identity with photograph and their  relationship as a family Viz CGHS card, Ration card, Driving license, ID Card, issued by school / College etc.
 Identity documents required for Nepalese citizens
  1. Nepalese passport
  2. Nepalese citizenship Certificate.
  3. Voter Identification card issued by the Election commission of Nepal.
  4. Limited validity photo identity certificate issued by Royal Nepalese mission in India which deemed necessary.
For children between age group of 10-18, Photo id issued by principal of school if accompanied by parents having valid travel documents. No such document is required for the children below the age group of 10 years.
GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS TO INDIA.
All foreigners should be in possession of valid passport and valid Indian visa (except certain categories of passports who are exempted from visa requirements) No visa is granted at arrival in India.

Requirement of Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
All passengers arriving from below mentioned countries should be in possession of yellow fever vaccination certificates.
